Absence from Work Certificates
Your pharmacist at Neighbourhood pharmacy, can provide an Absence from Work Certificate if you need time off work due to:
- Your own illness or injury (personal leave).
- Caring for an immediate family or household member who is unwell or injured (carer’s leave).
What to bring with you
- A valid form of identification (ID).
- If you need a carer’s certificate, the unwell person should come with you if possible. If this isn’t practical, the pharmacist will use their professional judgement to assess your request.
Things to know before your visit
- Your pharmacist can issue certificates for minor illnesses or injuries that are within their scope of practice. If your condition needs further assessment, you may be referred to a doctor or another healthcare professional.
- Certificates are not available for pregnancy-related absences. However, a pharmacist may still be able to help with minor ailments during pregnancy if appropriate.
- Certificates are not available for compassionate leave.
- Your pharmacist cannot provide certificates confirming that someone is fit to return to work.
- Certificates cannot be backdated, and can only be issued for short absences of up to two days.
- Certificates cannot be issued as an extension of an existing medical certificate.
